louisiana holiday transit. i finally am getting to spend a little more time in my grassroots of a city, Shreveport. this is where i started trying to become involved in the arts scene. i started selling my art originals in night clubs and other social outings. that all began near the end of 2013. my friend introduced me to the concept you can make money from being good at your artwork. that’s been something i’ve made become my only source of income for four years. i have learn a lot about myself and my value.
2018 is going to bring a lot of new things into my life, career, thinking patterns.
i’m looking to teach my friends and anyone who’s interested in learning some of what guided me to success. my colleague @jwes115 was consulting me and we combined our forces to begin an agency in late 2015. i’m looking to see how we evolve this year,
i want to impact the arts community in a new way that empowers the artist and creates new opportunity for success.
nothing is really too impossible or far out our reach.
i owe my success to the beloved friends who come into my life to lift my spirits when everything seems…overwhelming. after moving to New Orleans my life drastically changed for the better.realistically i needed to enter a larger city for more eyes to view my art to take me further. i didn’t want to go too far from Louisiana just yet-it will always be home for me. so here i am, thankful to even having made it this far.
this is Gavin, this is before we went to this place called The Republic. i feel like i harassed the marketing guy (Chris) to check out my website- mainly because he said he would, so i was just verifying that he would by asking him twice. i just really never believe anyone who i meet in a club setting that says they will do something without even getting any contact information.
that’s like saying i will be right back to your merch table to get something,
anyway- my phone isn’t broken anymore but my service will be off tomorrow.
life is always bittersweet and for this i am grateful.
i miss south Texas so much, it was so surreal seeing the full moon in the gulf how i did, it was literally like i was living in a dream. a memory i want to return to sooner than later.
in 2014 me and a group of friends were sitting at a coffee shop in Shreveport while drawing and we decided to get up and travel down major cities in Texas selling artwork for gas money to make it to Corpus Christi.
one of my first real on the road experiences ever really. i had to learn how to travel in a big number, it was six total. haha i know we looked like goof balls.
the coolest part was selling artwork in each city. from Dallas to Austin, to San Antonio to Corpus Christi, meeting people and sharing our stories together, i wouldn’t have traded that experience for anything.
draw to survive.
i’m floating among cosmic pipe dreams of success. i’m able to live and share my artwork in a city where it’s being taken seriously. i have to say that it’s a blessing to have come this far.
to my readers who are keeping track of this, you make this story interesting. i’m constantly aiming to accomplish some outlandish task every month.
yesterday was POBOY FEST and it was a really wonderful time. i got to enjoy my day just wandering through Oak Street. it was great seeing a new version of this street. totally amazed at how festivals come together here.
i’m also amazed at my friends in Goofy Froot, who reached their mark for their Kick Starter the very same day. props to them. i’m watching their story grow and unfold and that really makes me happy. success is all around us.
success is eating a “Hot Shrimp” PoBoy from Mellow Mushroom and engaging in the crowd of festival goers
success is working your hardest to get what exists in your mind into the physical world we live and tread in
success is taking your craft seriously and allowing for those who are able to help you to help you go further than you imagine
the one thing i enjoy about New Orleans is how mystical this place really is. it has a way of helping the right people cross paths at the right time. if you remain a float in your mental bubble of joy you will be surprised what that attracts into your life being here. i set out to get a chai in Midcity and i ended up in the French Quarter somehow. it’s actually to my surprise not only did i find a great chai but i ended up meeting a new soul-
believe it or not his name is Bob, isn’t he a handsome guy? he is a writer, lyricist, and drummer/musician. i happened upon him in cafe Envie and we kind of had this rad psychic connection going on. it was so refreshing to read his work about cosmic oneness, law of attraction, and being aware. we set out and enjoyed the first half of the day walking around the quarter. we stopped and said hello to the ladies at Where Y’Art. got a not your fathers root beer and talked about our dreams and goals.
hm we are going to Poboy Fest Sunday, you might see us if the stars align for it to be so.
