let your thoughts become your reality.
the surreal sensations of magic and mystery blanketed over me as i opened the art submitted by Matthew Castellano for MAGIC BOX this morning. i entered the Rook Cafe in hopes of this brilliant mind’s works being there. it was like a treat for getting up early, having a peace of mind, and taking on the day with such relentless optimism.
Matthew Castellano is a minimalist fantasy painter and illustrator. his works really play into the cerebral parts of your mind that are somewhat “eerie”. (originally from Florida) this Little Rock based artist is portraying emotion through a stream of thought provoking characters who seem to often lack clothing, spherical heads, and are decorated with rituals, ironic symbolism, and much more.
our paths crossed when i was living in Little Rock, Arkansas for about five months. we became friends through friends who wanted to help me get connected with the art scene. i have been blessed to have a pal like him, i wanted to be his friend since i met him because of his artwork. i was a fan immediately. we clicked and he allowed me to join in on a group art show at Gallery 360 called ICEBOX. i think it was one of the first group art showings i have participated in aside from school showings! (i’ll fact check later)
MAGIC BOX is set for the entire month of November. Our reception is on 11.11.16 – at the Rook Cafe. Please come and be consumed.
i recently embarked on a tour pieced together with members of our portculture music and arts collective. i booked a stream of events from Louisiana to Texas ranging from venues to house shows from August 10th to August 15th. i can say for sure that we all learned a ton as well as enjoyed every moment of it. this is the second tour that i’ve helped with since living in New Orleans. it’s really a honor to be working with such talented creators. we did the impossible and brought a dream to life.
the Lazy Sunday Tour was created with the musicians Austin Rapbaum, Big Bro, Samwyse Ganja, and Keith Jone$. we had support from members of our brothers in the Panda Mason Collective based in Slidell, LA. Neji Vibez, Djenko, Pauly, and Dapper Dan helped make this adventure a success. without them this would of been not as hype.
thanks for your help Jack and Conway again for helping make Lake Charles, LA a beautiful escape with extreme night life. that was extremely hype and unexpectedly amazing. that’s what we have to do, live with no expectations.
thank you Carter ( Swoozie ) for helping out with Houston, TX and inviting your friends out to get down with us. until next time.
i want to personally thank our friends in San Antonio, Tressa / Jason / and Josiah. San Antonio was a great first time experience. Thanks White Elephant Coffee Company, and thank you Franky Diablo’s for hosting us and allowing the vibes to spread. thanks for being consumed with our energy. seriously we can’t wait to be back again.
there are many more exciting adventures being had for the future for project portculture and the artists we represent. stay informed at our official website www.portculture.org
i added a splash of color xoxo
hey so life has been very eventful and im loving it. i have to say im sorry if i have been slow to respond or forgot to get back in touch with you, im starting to make lists to be sure to organize my time properly now that this is the 25th cycle of my life on earth,
i have met so many beautiful people during this time i would not trade it for a thing, i am actually really honored to have gotten to meet so many people that i have, it’s so surreal and it’s a blessing to call this life,
im literally floating in a head space of creativity. my entire life is centered around art, my friend groups all consist of artists, life reminds me to be thankful.
i am filled with blissful tears as i think back on the hundreds of people i have met and gotten to share a story with, you have given this life purpose.
i’m really happy right now, yesterday i received my order of artist tees.
the first one in the series is “the harbinger” — if you would like to buy one, they are for sale at $30.00 USD. the quality is really nice, they are soft, and there is a lot of time and energy put into them.
i’m going to run to acquire groceries right now, hello world.
